Creating a website part 3

So, I hope that video from previous piost,  helped you as much as me-  a lot. After you watched it and followed instructions, you should be able to create the website.

If you want to make a website using something other than Dreamweaver, no problem, in my blog list you can find lots of the useful information, in particular blog called "2 Create a Website", which is on the left side of my blog, this blog will help you a lot.

The final touch for me is to check guidelines and see if I followed them all, and for you, well, it all depends what you created website for. If it’s for fun, ask your friend to check it out, and give his or her opinion, if it’s for more practical use, you could even ask your teacher to give you feedback on how you can improve.

Creating a website part 2

So, after you gathered all the information, you need to get ready to create a website. For this, you need: computer, internet access and of course Dreamweaver, as we will use this program to create a website. Of course there are a lot of other ways to create it, such as using domains, but I will use this one, as it's what I want to learn.

In class, I got lots of instructions on how to create a website, but I find this video easier to follow, as it gives step by step instructions, which I find very easy to follow. For me this visual tutorial was very useful, as I learn faster when I see how something is done. I hope that it will help you too, if not- well, maybe your way of remembering things is different than mine, try to experiment!

So, what do you think? It's just the beginning, but I think that with help of this video, you will understand how to create basic website and might as well like it. Even if it looks complicated, with practice it will be easier, after all everything is improved with practice, main rule is to never give up!

Creating a website, part 1

So, after a while of thinking I actually have to create web. It takes time, and so I need to find it, even though I am very busy, sooner or later I need to start it, so better start it sooner. First step is to decide what the web will be about, unfortunately I can’t do it just about anything, as we have guidelines and I need to follow them, so I need to choose one of the given themes, so I looked at them and I am down to those few:

·   Copyright: guidelines, and / or issues, and / or cases.

·   Privacy and security online.

·   Copyright law in Ireland.

Let's see, I am interested in copyright, I am curious about privacy and so it's very hard to choose one of those 3.As I have to pick one, I will stop at Copyright Law in Ireland, not because I live it, but because I have a strong feeling that I will benefit from it later.

So, first step is done, now, second one is to find information about this topic, after all I can't write anything I want to, I have to know what I will be writing about. I will look on the internet and when will find information, will create folder on my desktop and will write the formation into Word Document into that folder, if I do that, it will be easier to make website later on, teacher said so, so I will listen and follow his advice. That's it for now, first of all, I need to gather information, and only then try to make something out of it.

 

 

Badly created websites

Before starting with the website, it’s crucial to understand what work there and what not. What good websites have and what doesn’t, for this, it's good idea to see examples of badly created websites.

First of all, well-made website should have good structure, clear aims and objectives and appropriate content. There are lots of other small details that make website good, we will look at it later, when creating the website. I like that website, as it shows well, that none of the features included work, so it will be good idea, to look at it again, and remember for your future references that it doesn't work, so you need to avoid it, at any cost.

As you can see, not only structure and content matters, use of colour is important too.  The main point here is that if it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. If you are not sure, it’s good idea to show your website to someone else, so he can give you feedback and tell what works and what not.

Just remember that everything takes practice, and you won’t be able to create something perfect straight away, so, practice and experiment, it will surely help you later on!

 

Copy Right

Last and this week, in class we looked at copyright issue. This is very tricky thing, as very often it's unclear who is right and who isn't.

About blogs and websites and copyright: if you use someone elses images, video or info, you always have to acknowledge them in some way, as if not, that means that you would be stealing their work, and it might end badly for you.

Imagine situation: you wrote book, and showed to a friend, she loved it, and later, few years after, you find your book published, by your friend. What would you feel? Exactly, id you use someone else's work without referencing them, they will feel the same, so respect them.

Copyright is indeed tricky question, as some people say that content they use should be free, others, that people worked on it hard, so they have right to get money from it. Nowadays lots of people want free information, programs etc. so just be careful not to abuse power you have and always reference someone else's work.

Website

So, last week, in class we tried to build a website. Wow, for the first time in my life I felt like alien that tries to build another star. I felt that I knew nothing at all. But after all, i choose this module to learn, so i hope that I will, as fast as I can. Anyway, we were given instructions, and told to follow them. Well, I didn’t find it very useful as I had millions of questions, and teacher, well, she looked too busy to answer on them. I am very shy girl after all, if someone is busy, I try not to bother them.

So... I tried to get into it, but as I have never read instructions to any program, just tried to do it myself, I didn’t find that sheet way too useful. I decided to use YouTube, yes, my best friend, when I don’t know something. So, I will upload link which I used later, try to watch it too, as it will help you as much as it helped me :)

I find YouTube very useful as it shows very small and easy steps, and I love to follow them, and then everything looks so easy!

 

Privacy matter

So, last week, in Ul, my univerasity,  we studied all about privacy. I found out a lot of interesting information which I wasn't aware of about before.

I was shocked to find out that we are  being watched all the time, no matter what we do, we have zero privacy. Facebook gathers all the data, so does any other web. Google gathers data about what we search for. Even our phone gathers data too.

Well, it might sound harmless, but, I think that that's a bit too much. We have no privacy at all and who knows what they will use that data for, later?

Now I don’t feel safe, even when I am alone in my room. Surely, one might say, if you have nothing to hide, why be afraid of anyone? But well, there are times when you want to feel secure, at home, with your computer, relaxed. Now I will never feel this security, as no matter where I will be, I will never be alone, there will always be someone gathering data from devices I have…

Well, what can we do about it? Nothing! There is always price for everything, and that’s the price we have to pay for the internet and technology…

I just hope that this all information won’t be used against us in the future.

 

How to make a basic blog

It’s not hard at all to start your basic blog, all you need is internet, time and a bit of the information. So, first you need to choose, which website you want to use. There are various ones, but most useful and most used are, World Press and Blogger. I use blogger, why? Well, I didn’t know that there was another one, by the time I made it and now I just keep using it because I'm used to it.

So, you need to register and put down few details such as name of the bog, your own details. When you registered, you can start your blog. It’s as simple as this. I didn’t even know anything about bog when I started it.

You can add blog posts with different names, insert pictures and images. If you want to make more professional looking bog, you need to know a bit more about it. There is a good Youtube video which helped me to improve a lot.

There are lots of videos in YouTube how to make blog too, and I watches quiet few of them, I must say, they all are great help! Below is the video which I chose to use, it helped me a lot, hope that It will help you too. Basically it says it all, how to start and improve your blog. Those are the steps a followed when creating this blog.

Blogs and websites in our life- Advantages

Blog or website, that is the question, well, if you are not sure, why not try both? In this blog I will try to teach you, giving you information you need, how to create them.

First of all, before starting, we need to see clearly why we need to learn how to create blogs and websites. Surely we use technology every day, but we also can live without being able to create something like websites and blogs, right?

Well, that's for you to decide whether to create them or not, but here are some good points about doing it:

• Most of your family and friends  have them already which means that if you will get them too, you will have even more to talk about and share.
• It will good on your CV- employers nowadays like their employees to have more than one skill- so if you write that you know how to create blogs and webs, it will look very good on your CV.
• Blogs are often used as journals, where you can express yourself, or write your thoughts about something, so if you have something to say, it’s for you.
• Webs and blogs can be used as selling alternative of eBay. If you have something unwanted, just sell it there, it’s free.
• Blogs and webs can be good place to make friends which have the same interests as you.
• It’s just creative way to spend time- you can be as creative as you want to on blogs and web sites.

Surely there are more points, but those are the main ones, so if I convinced you, then keep reading, if not- well try too, maybe it will make you interested later on.

Module TW4116

Hello everyone, I am student of the 3^rd year, New Media and English course in the University of Limerick. My university is situated in town Limerick, Ireland. Recently I started Technical Writing module.

I choose this module because I found its description interesting. It said that I will learn how to create a blog and a website. I knew a bit of how to create a blog, as I had one already, but I wanted to improve it, and I was very interested in how to create a website, as then I would be able to make something interesting and fun at the free time. So, I was very excited about this module.

When module started, I listened with all my attention to what teacher is going to say. I found out that there are more to blogs than I expected. I knew how to use basics, but after class, I understood that it was all just the beginning.

After class, when I went home, I decided to try and improve my blog. First I used all the skills I learned from the class, then, after I was stuck, I went to YouTube, as I used it before for various reasons and knew that it might be quite useful for me now. I was right, video that I found, about how to create and improve the blog, helped a lot! It showed how to do everything step by step, which I found very interesting and helping. The result, you can see right now- so, what do you think?

It’s easier than you think, to improve your basic blog, particularly if you struggle, there is a lot of supporting video on YouTube, so you will find the one you will like for sure as there is great choice of them.

Next time I will talk about websites and blogs in our life, and then come back to making blogs, so bear with me, hope you will find my blog useful, as even though it’s part of my assignment, still, it’s also part of my life, and in this part, I want to improve by exploring new ways of learning, and I want to help others to improve too by my example.
